Looking back at our past celebrations
Durgapuja (Since 2012)
Durgapuja is the most popular event of the year, where we immerse ourselves in puja rituals during the day followed by cultural extravaganza in the evenings, and of course paired with Indian food and snacks through out the day. We had 1600+ visitors last year over the span of 5 days, where we come together as a community to celebrate our roots.
Krosswindz (2025)
After we bid farewell to Ma Durga on Bijaya Dashami, the evening was filled with great music and adda when we danced to the tunes of famous Bengali band Krosswindz, travelling all the way from Kolkata. The soulful voice of Chandrani paired with lead guitarist Tuki, it took us down the memory lane filling the evening with nostalgia. This also marked the first Bangla band performance in NRW, hopefully many more to come.
Consular Camp (2025)
Last year we organised an Indian Consular Camp in Düsseldorf, together with Consulate of India, Frankfurt where 100+ cases were taken up in a duration of 3 hours. People could enjoy Puja vibes and Indian food , and it felt like a community gathering while you get your administrative services sorted.
Summer Grill Party
To add some heat to the European summer, the IGD community comes together for a grill party every summer. We spend the day outdoors with good food, music, games and lots of Adda.
Bengali New Year
Every year we gather around Bengali New Year to celebrate our Bengali culture with authentic Indian food. Last year, we gathered in a restaurant where the whole community participated together in a fun filled evening with music and dance.
A- e Anindya (2025)
We had the pleasure of hosting Anindya (renowned member of Bengali band Chandrabindoo), who had gifted us an evening with his amazing music, poetry and narrations. While the grown ups went back in memory lane dancing to famous Chandrabindoo beats, the young ones thoroughly enjoyed the Bengali musical extravaganza, something that is extremely rare and valuable for the younger generation.
Utsava (2024)
In 2024, we combined our Bengali New Year celebration with a food festival, where multiple vendors set up food stalls for authentic Indian food, starting from Phuchka, Momo, Chop to Biriyani, Kathi Rolls and Bengali desserts like Rosogolla and Malpua. We also had cultural programs with music and dance, with the highlight being Ethnic Fashion Show where every member of the community participated. The event was also supported by Krass e.V. where they set up a station for complimentary kids arts and crafts.
Lakshmi Puja
After an extravagant Durgapuja serving over 1000+ guests, the Lakshmi Puja is comparatively a quieter event, usually restricted to our members only. This gives our member community an opportunity to come together once more, giving them a fun relaxed day after the Durgapuja vibes slow down, after months of planning and preparation.
Saraswati Puja
Every year we celebrate Saraswati Puja, bringing a day of warmth in the middle of long, cold German winters. It is usually a day full of celebration starting with Puja prepartaion, Anjali, Kids Haatekhori, a sumptuous Bhog of Khichudi ending with a homely cultural program.
